Scarves are a comfortable alternative to wigs for women with hair loss from chemotherapy, radiation, or surgical treatment for cancer. We offer an extensive collection of both pre-tied scarves and square cotton scarves. The pre-tied scarves are elasticized in the back for a secure fit. For the square scarves we suggest following these instructions:
The best size for a scarf is a 30” square or larger. Tying a scarf starts with these simple steps:
- Fold the scarf in diagonally in half to form a triangle. Hint: To achieve more coverage with a bandana size scarf fold down one third.
- Place the long straight edge of the scarf on your forehead with the point of the triangle in the back. Hint: Place the front of the scarf lower on your forehead than where you want it to end up. It’s easier to pull the scarf back once it’s tied than to pull it forward.
- Tie the 2 side ends of the triangle together in the back of your head under the back part of the triangle.
- Tuck the back of the triangle under the knot and tie again so the scarf is secure. The loose ends can be twisted together and wrapped to form a “bun” or rosette at the nape of the neck or they can be left hanging loose.
Cotton scarves work best for staying in place. To prevent slippage with silky scarves or to give a little more height, try wearing a 3-seam turban or cotton wig liner as a base for your scarf.
Wear the knot on the side for an alternative look. If the ties are long enough you can create a bow effect.
Add a decorative scrunchie around the knot for a different look.
